Archive reconstruction

The original Political Hurricane page is no longer available in our recovered database. This archival version is reconstructed from substantial surviving quoted material and is presented as a historical record, not as a current editorial position.

This November 2012 article revisited the proposed Heartland Parkway, a long-planned toll-road corridor through central and southwest Florida.

The surviving citation shows that the piece was responding to contemporary reporting about large landowners and Florida’s “Future Corridors” program. It argued that the proposal raised two separate concerns: whether the road represented a sound transportation investment, and whether public infrastructure spending would disproportionately benefit major landowners along the corridor.

The article also placed the proposal in the political history of the project, noting that the Heartland Parkway had been promoted during the Jeb Bush era, opposed by Charlie Crist, and revived under Rick Scott. It connected the road debate to broader concerns about rural development, environmental impacts and the state’s transportation priorities.

Because the original page body has not been recovered independently, this version does not reproduce the missing article word for word. It preserves the original title, publication date and URL while summarizing only material that survives in the citation.
